Shonishin Pediatric treatments

Kelly uses a gentle technique for treating children called Shonishin—a Japanese style that involves acupressure and lightly smoothing the skin with special tools made of bronze or silver. As with regular acupuncture, the goal is to harmonize the energy in the meridians to improve the body’s ability to function optimally.

Shonishin is appropriate for newborns, infants and children through about 12 and can be utilized for sensitive adults as well.

Kelly’s treatment may include zero balancing or other bodywork.

Chinese herbal medicine

Chinese herbal medicine is wonderful for kids. Kelly can prescribe herb formulas and the appropriate dosage for various conditions as well as for prevention and maintaining health.

If children start taking herbs early, they will take them with little fuss for years to come. Kelly’s son now asks for his daily herbs (tablets that he chews) and happily takes the most bitter herbs with a few drops of maple syrup.

Kelly can help families stock their medicine cabinets with a few essential formulas that are great to have on hand in case of cold/flu or stomach bug.

Pediatric acupressure and Chinese herbal medicine can help:

Common cold or flu, coughs, and ear infections
Allergies (environmental and food)
Asthma
Eczema, hives and other skin rashes
Digestive issues and colic
And more

Kelly began seeing our twins when they were less than 1 year old. They both had pneumonia and one ended up being hospitalized for this. We wanted to seek out assistance to help them heal faster and help strengthen their lungs for the long term. We began weekly acupressure treatments and daily herbal medicine. Kelly was so gentle, patient, and very skilled at providing treatment to wiggly babies! After several months of treatment, the twins’ health had improved substantially. I was quite happy when we visited the lung specialist and he commented at how pleasantly surprised he was as the speed of recovery.
